Description

Introduced in 1969 by General Aquadyne of Santa Barbara, California, the AH-2 represents an important chapter in the evolution of commercial diving equipment. As one of the early fiberglass diving helmet designs, it helped usher in a new generation of lightweight, modern diving equipment that would eventually replace traditional copper and brass helmets.

This original General Aquadyne AH-2 is in very nice condition and has an especially interesting recent history! Unlike many surviving examples that have spent decades on display, this helmet was professionally serviced and actually used for diving within the past few years. While offered strictly as a historical collectible, its relatively recent diving history makes it particularly appealing.

The original black gelcoat finish retains a beautiful shine, with only minor signs of use visible upon close inspection. The original chrome-plated hardware also displays an attractive luster, with some expected age-related wear. The locking neck ring hardware and jockstrap assembly remain intact. The original manufacturer’s identification tag is still present inside the helmet, clearly displaying serial number 162.

Also included is an original General Aquadyne service manual covering both the AH-2 and GH-2 diving helmets, an excellent companion piece for collectors interested in the design, operation, and maintenance of these historic helmets.

With its attractive original appearance, complete hardware, low serial number, and unusual recent diving history, this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a classic American fiberglass diving helmet. An excellent addition to any collection of vintage commercial diving equipment!

Collector’s Note: Although this helmet has reportedly been serviced and used for diving in recent years, it is being sold strictly as a collectible. A complete professional inspection, servicing, and appropriate testing would be required before any consideration of underwater use.

All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.

All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
