Lot 13:
Exception Drager DM 200/1 German 12 Bolt Diving Helmet
Description
This is an exceptional example of the German Draeger (Dräger) Model DM 200/1 diving helmet, displaying in remarkably well-preserved, near-new condition. Introduced during the 1970s, the DM 200/1 combined modern fiberglass construction with the classic two-piece bonnet and breastplate configuration associated with traditional European diving helmets.
The helmet retains its original yellow gel-coat finish with only very minor blemishes from age and handling. All twelve wing nuts, brails and related exterior components remain intact, giving the helmet an exceptionally complete and impressive appearance.
What makes this example particularly desirable is its condition. These helmets were built as working commercial diving equipment, and surviving examples are often encountered with considerable wear, modifications or missing components. Finding a DM 200/1 today in this level of preservation has become increasingly difficult.
With its distinctive 12-bolt configuration and classic silhouette reminiscent of the earlier copper and brass German helmets, the DM 200/1 is an impressive example of late-20th-century German diving equipment. For the collector seeking an exceptionally clean, original example, it would be difficult to find a much better one.
