Nation's Attic Diving Into History 2023
Lot 53:
One of the most influential and important designers and manufacturer of diving helmets starting in 1967 is Ben Miller. After designing his own helmet out of fiberglass and making 6 of them, he went to work on a more durable helmet. His first run of helmets, called the series 100, were made of bronze and cast in Norway before being shipped to the US for final assembly. While a very costly process, the result was a extremely high quality helmet made in limited numbers. Those helmets would be made until a new design was introduced in 1972, the series 200.
The seldom found model 200 helmets were produced in the early to mid 1970s. This example was owned and used by a diving firm in the UK. As can be seen in the photos, the helmet was used but kept in excellent original condition. On the window frame is serial #261, along with the Miller name. The black textured painted bronze body is in very good condition along with the hardware. The helmets neck dam is present along with original components inside. This is one of the finest examples we have ever handled.
All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. DHL Express is an option for international shipments under 600 pounds via air. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
