Nations Attic Winter 2026 Diving Into History
Lot 46:
Description
This vintage A. Schrader three-light, twelve-bolt diving helmet presents a wonderful classic appearance, combining an antique bonnet with a later replacement breastplate.
The original upper half (bonnet) retains its brass hardware, glass windows, and internal components, including the original telephone reproducer (speaker). At some point in its history, the original breastplate was likely lost or damaged and subsequently replaced. The current breastplate appears to have been manufactured by the A. Schrader Diving Equipment Co. during its years in Bowie, Maryland. The manufacturer’s identification plate is present and bears serial number 1756.
Both halves thread together smoothly and fit properly, creating a complete helmet with an attractive vintage appearance. With its traditional three-light, twelve-bolt configuration, this helmet is a fine representation of the classic American diving equipment used throughout the first half of the twentieth century.
