This is a model 1917 Smith & Wesson revolver in .45 caliber. The barrel is features S.&W. D.A. 45 and the top Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA along with patent numbers. The bottom of the barrel says United States Property. The butt stamped US Army Model 1917 No 17842, which dates this specific gun’s manufacturer to February 1918. The leather holster fits the gun perfectly. The numbers 1962 and 27 are stamped on the backside. Mechanically, the pistol functions just as it should. This model was the primary back-up gun during World War 1, and issued to many non-frontline soldiers. This firearm must be shipped to an FFL or C&R license holder.
