Nations Attic Winter 2026 Diving Into History
Lot 25:
Description
This scarce World War II-era shallow-water diving mask was manufactured by the Thompson Engineering Company (TECO) as a lightweight alternative to traditional copper and brass diving helmets. Designed for shallow-water operations, the TECO mask offered divers greater mobility and ease of movement while eliminating much of the weight and bulk associated with conventional diving equipment.
Masks of this type were particularly valuable during World War II, including the emergency salvage and recovery operations following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Their lightweight construction made them well suited for underwater work requiring speed and maneuverability.
This example is complete and survives in excellent original condition. Due to their rubber construction and the deterioration commonly associated with age and use, relatively few examples have survived in this level of preservation. All of the straps are intact as well as the two rubber hoses. Excellent display piece.
