Description
20,000 Jobs Under the Sea: A History of Diving and Underwater Engineering, by Torrance R. Parker.1997, Sub Sea Archives, California. 354 pages with numerous b&w photos. One of the essential books in any diving library, written by one of America’s foremost commercial diving authorities. 23 Chapters, Four Appendix sections, Notes, Credits, Index. Hard bound in color dust jacket with memorial photo of the author attached to the flysheet. If you are involved in the international commercial diving industry or are studying diving history or commercial diving equipment you will already know about this book. After completing this book Torrance developed and built a permanent commercial diving exhibition at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, which connects to various chapters of the book. Approximately 2,000 copies were published in two separate runs of 1,000 copies each, and the book sold out swiftly after each run. Torrance declined to take the printing of the book to the cheaper Asian printers and had it printed here in the United States by Publishers Press. He even flew up to the printers and attended the press run, staying up all night by the presses to ensure it all came out exactly as he wanted it to. This is a new, unused, book in mint condition with a mint dust jacket. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail.
