Nations Attic 2026 Diving Into History + More
Lot 216:
Description
This Samurai sword or katana is one of several we have in this auction that were obtained at the end of World War 2 and brought back to the United States. We will do our best to describe each piece, but please reach out to us with any questions. This katana features a blade or nagasa with a length of 21.25 inches and an overall length of 29.5 inches. The nagasa is unrestored and exhibits various small imperfections as shown in the photos. To our untrained eyes, we do not see a Hamon in the blade. The saya or scabbard is made of wood and appears to have a relatively newly applied dark brown exterior textured finish. Where the blade goes into the saya, the wood is cracked, but still structurally sound. The habaki, seppa, tsuba, kashira and fuchi are intact. The tsuka-ito or rope around the handle is present and in good condition. Stringray leather is present under the rope along with a menuki on each side. There is one wood peg or mekugi. With the handle removed, both sides of the tang are visible. There is what appears to be a signature on one side towards the end of the tang. Please review the photos for additional information. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required. Please be aware that if you are outside of the United States, we are not responsible if your country’s customs denies the shipment of a knife or sword. We are not responsible for returned shipments and will not issue a refund. The item can be placed in a future auction. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
