Description

The Gorski diving helmet story begins in the 1980s with Leszek Gorski, a commercial diver in Communist-aligned Poland, who faced a chronic shortage of modern equipment. Driven by necessity, Gorski took it upon himself to design a safer, more advanced diving apparatus. After immigrating to the United States in 1984, he spent decades refining his vision, producing his first design in 1994 and a tested prototype by 1997. The culmination of this entrepreneurial journey was the G2000SS, which officially hit the market in 2004 and quickly became noted for its durable stainless-steel shell and remarkable ease of service. Before the now famous G2000SS were made and hit the market, Gorski painstakingly produced individual helmets, or prototypes, the precursors to the G2000SS. While crude in appearance and overall design, this once fully functional helmet was Gorski first helmet! Using an off the shelf paint bucket, simple diving components, this was his first creation. While it may not as visually impressive as his later masterpiece, it is worthy of a spot in any fine collection or museum. Please note that the stand does not accompany the helmet. This helmet also carries a distinguished professional provenance, having been owned by The Ocean Corporation in Houston, Texas. This diving school worked with Gorski and received some of his helmets. This example was on display in a place of honor in the school’s lobby. Its storied history as a teaching tool and display piece will be fully documented on the included Certificate of Authenticity. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required.
