Nation's Attic 2024 Diving Into History
Lot 64:
Here is your opportunity to own a piece of Russian Navy diving history! Referred to as a 3-bolt model, this was the standard helmet used by Russian and Soviet military divers throughout the second half of the 20th Century. This beautiful example was made in 2000 and appears to have never been put into service.
The copper body features a nice subtle patina that has formed over the last 24 years. All the factory-installed brass hardware is intact, including the faceplate, neck rings, exhaust, three bolts, breastplate studs, and ID plate. The white plastic air cover over the air & comms connection is still intact. The original rubber neck ring gasket is present and pliable. Inside, the bonnet features a removable air channel and bracket for a communications reproducer. There is a very slight angle to the bottom edge of the front and back edges of the breastplate, which is likely original. In other words, this helmet is exactly the way it left the Russian factory!
As the supply of these iconic helmets has dwindled over the years, their values have gone up accordingly. Despite this, they are still a relatively economical helmet popular around the world. The good folks at DESCO offer a three-bolt neck dam, allowing easy use of this helmet without a huge Russian dive dress.
All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
