Buyer's premium:

This is a unique helmet designed by the French firm Piel and Etudes et Fabrications Aeronautiques. Initially, it appears to be a pilot or space helmet, which was likely its inspiration. Marketing of these started in the 1970s, with three versions eventually being made. This example appears to be the first version, an EP 100. The helmet features a lightweight fiberglass body with a retractable faceplate. Most of the original hardware has been removed from this helmet. The movable faceplate is intact and still functions. The helmet is incredibly light, weighing only 2 pounds 10 ounces. There is a 002 on the inside of the helmet, possibly indicating a serial number. The inner rubber liner is still flexible. This is a fascinating helmet design and the first we have ever handled.

All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.
