Nations Attic Winter 2026 Diving Into History
Lot 40:
Description
An impressive and uncommon Soviet-era non-magnetic diving knife, featuring the distinctive hammer-and-sickle emblem and five-pointed star stamped directly into its blade. These historic Soviet symbols are especially interesting and may represent military acceptance or inspection markings, although their precise significance has not been confirmed.
Non-magnetic diving knives were specialized tools designed for use around sensitive magnetic equipment and underwater ordnance. Their non-ferrous construction also offered excellent resistance to saltwater corrosion, making them particularly well suited for demanding underwater operations.
This substantial knife features a broad, copper-colored blade with a distinctive pointed tip, a deeply ribbed black handle, and brass fittings. The original-style brass sheath features a retaining mechanism to help secure the knife when not in use. Both the blade and sheath display a wonderful aged patina, with surface wear and marks consistent with years of use. The Soviet stampings remain clearly visible, adding to its historical character.
An excellent example of specialized Soviet diving equipment, this unusual knife would make a fascinating addition to any collection of military diving equipment, Cold War artifacts, or historic diving knives.
