Description

This visually impressive four-light, 12-bolt diving helmet features a TOA Diving Apparatus Company identification plate and an unusually heavy, rugged appearance. Unlike traditional TOA-style helmets, its overall form has a substantial U.S. Navy Mark V influence, giving it an especially imposing display presence. The helmet is constructed with a tinned copper body and cast brass components, with all four glass windows intact. Four brails and twelve wing nuts are present, along with the internal air vents.

The helmet is quite heavy, and the bonnet and breastplate thread together properly. The only notable missing component is the exhaust valve knob, and there is no neck-ring gasket. Some of the cast brass components exhibit variations in finish and thickness consistent with non-production manufacture. Based upon its construction and details, we believe this to be a well-made vintage-style replica rather than an original TOA production helmet, and therefore no COA will be issued. Regardless of its origin, it is an extremely attractive helmet with a convincing aged appearance and a heavy, rugged character that displays exceptionally well.
