Nations Attic 2026 Diving Into History + More
Lot 76:
Description
This is a rarely seen early Kirby Morgan Corporation copper-and-brass diving helmet. Known worldwide for their cutting-edge fiberglass helmets, the company started off by modifying Yokohama and DESCO helmets. This particular helmet is a classic example of a Japanese Yokohama copper and brass helmet given some subtle improvements by Kirby Morgan during the 1960s. The helmet features their unique and early diamond-shaped brass ID plate that is stamped KIRBY MORGAN CORP SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. One of the brails of the helmet features the Yokohama logo on it. The helmet itself is a classic four-light, twelve-bolt configuration. The ports are acrylic and thread in and out of the bonnet. Externally, the helmet is completed with its original hardware. Internal air tubing is present along with its original reproducer. The helmet remains in excellent original condition with a nice green patina on the surface. The bonnet and breastplate do thread together, but they are very tight, so we will be shipping the helmet as one piece. This helmet was owned by the diver Bob Wick, who directly purchased it from Bob Kirby many decades ago. The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept in a permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
