Description

An exceptionally rare find, this Charles Person shallow water helmet is the first of its kind we have had the honor of offering. Manufactured in São Paulo, Brazil, by one of only three known Brazilian helmet makers, Person’s equipment is incredibly scarce as his primary trade was boat propeller production. Specifically designed for the rigorous gold and diamond mining industries of South America—including the legendary gem-rich rivers of Venezuela and Bolivia—this model features a unique technical design where the bonnet and breastplate separate via 12 brass screws to accommodate a diving suit. This specimen is in very good original condition with a consistent, beautiful patina and retains its original threaded faceplate, ID plate, exhaust, and air fitting. While the air elbow is slightly loose (though secure) and the faceplate glass has a small edge chip, this remains a premier, highly complete example of a South American rarity that is typically found in far lesser condition. The display stand in the photos is not included. The option to purchase the stand at a discounted price will be available after the auction. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. DHL express is an option for international shipments under 600 pounds via air. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
