Description

This is a professionally made cast-iron shallow water diving helmet, likely dating from the post-1950s era. Although no manufacturer’s name is present, the quality of the construction is evident throughout. This specific model is a rare style characterized by its heavy cast-iron body and a unique dual-window design. It features a large acrylic viewport on the front and a smaller round window located at the top, directly under the carrying handle. The origin of this style of helmet is a mystery with other documented examples known to exist. The helmet weighs approximately 65 pounds and is in solid structural condition with no visible cracks or breaks in the iron. The acrylic windows are well-preserved, and the old gold paint remains in good condition, showing only light signs of age and wear.Carrying a distinguished history of service, this helmet was owned by The Ocean Corporation, where it played a central role in shaping the careers of emerging commercial divers. After its working life, it was transitioned from the training tank to a prominent display in the school’s lobby, serving as an inspiration to students for years. This history will be documented on the included Certificate of Authenticity provided to the winning bidder. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required.
