Description

From the "Cross-Your-Heart" bra to the frontiers of space, the David Clark Company is the gold standard for life support in extreme environments. After pivoting from lingerie to WWII G-suits and the iconic "Pumpkin Suits" worn by Space Shuttle astronauts, David Clark brought their aerospace mastery to the ocean floor in the late 1960s. This rare diving helmet represents a unique era when the same engineering used for the X-15 rocket plane and the Gemini space program was adapted for deep-sea mixed gas exploration.Representing a fascinating chapter of late-1960s diving design, this David Clark helmet shell is offered in its original, unfinished state. The red fiberglass shell is "new old stock" and has never been drilled for components, and it features a temporary acrylic port. Most significantly, the helmet is still accompanied by its original two-piece fiberglass mold, which remains in excellent display condition. This set provides a rare look at the fabrication of these iconic helmets and is likely a unique survivor, making it a standout addition to any collection.Carrying a distinguished history of service, this helmet was owned by The Ocean Corporation, where it played a central role in shaping the careers of emerging commercial divers. This helmet was a prominent display in the school’s lobby, serving as an inspiration to students for years. This history will be documented on the included Certificate of Authenticity provided to the winning bidder. All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity. All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. Payment via bank wire for customers outside the USA is required. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
